This year my boys decided that they did not want to eat school lunch. I debated this idea alot because A) They only charge $1.75 per child that is pretty cheap. Can I do home lunch for this price. and B) Will they get sick of it.
I finally gave in after they begged and begged and bought lunch boxes. and some supplies and we have done them everyday so far this year with no complaints.
My question is do any of you do home lunches? If you do what do you do? I would love some ideas so I can keep the cost low and mix it up. They are liking it so we are committed for a while but I wonder how long cold sandwiches can remain exciting.
If you have any ideas I would love them!!

We do Both! I put so much money in their account at school (what a rip we pay $2.60 per lunch!!) And when the lunch calendar comes home they can choose which days they want school lunch. the rest of the days they take a lunch. A sandwhich which I change what kind, a baggie of chips and a Capri Sun and something else like applesauce, fruit cup, pudding cup ect. It changes a little but not much when I pack it's basicaly the same. When you do it this way though you have to keep a good calendar when each kids is eating school lunch or when you need to make it, it can get confussing!
We're going through the same debate at my house. There are some days that Garrett wants to take his lunch. I just don't know what to send.
As a special surprise in Malie's lunch I write her a note on her napkin. She is so excited to see what it will say. It's just basic like "Have a good day" or a promise to do something they like when they get home. That seems to make the sandwich and juice box not so boring!
My kids eat school lunch about times per month, it's been that way since the beginning. We just have to change up the sandwiches and then I always let them choose the sides. They can do one sugar and the other two have to be non-sugary. They usually do chips, fruit roll-up and pudding. It's hard and by the end of the year they get bored. I just do the calender thing like Cindy and let them choose the good days. I have tried to buy containers to send warm dishes and it never worked. Good luck! I just buy my lunch supplies at Sams Club in bulk and I never buy singles, I put the chips in a baggie. It cuts the cost a little.
We usually do school lunch, mainly because I'm too lazy to fix stuff. :)
But when we do home lunches we usually do string cheese, yogurts, etc. Acasia doesn't like sandwiches so we usually just pack sliced meat or a yogurt and other things. Picky, picky...
SHAYCIE SAID... ARE LUNCH IS 40CENTS
